Aviva Premiership Rugby Union club the London Irish is hopeful that their young starlets such as Matt Garvey, Jamie Gibson and Anthony Watson will follow in the footsteps of their fellow young team mates and sign a contract that will see them pledge their future to The Exiles for the foreseeable future.
This news comes in just a week after Tom Homer, the 22 year old full back for the club, followed in the footsteps of his senior partner Bryn Evans at second row by signing an improved two year contract with the club.
It is being reported that The Exiles’ Director of Rugby Brian Smith is extremely keen to retain the young players whom he sees as the future of the club and he hopes to build a new side with these youngsters as the nucleus of the side. The 22 year old Gibson was part of England’s summer tour of South Africa and it is being believed that he has already agreed an improved contract offer from the London Irish and is very close to putting pen to paper on the deal.
England Saxons forward Garvey as well as the 18 year old Watson is also believed to be very close to agreeing new terms of their contract. Smith stated that the team is extremely close with those boys and added that the club is hopeful that they will put pen to paper on their respective new deals by the end of next week.
Smith mentioned that the club has a specific direction and the contract offer to those players is an indication of how much the club values them and it is entirely up to them whether they want to extend their stay with the London Irish or look for greener pastures in the Aviva Premiership or abroad.
